Mediation

Family Mediation

Mediation helps parents who are separating to reach agreement over arrangements for their children and their finance and property. You do not have to be a parent to use the service. Mediation helps you and your partner decide on the future for yourselves and your family.

It can also help if you have been apart for some time.

The services that are on offer are voluntary and confidential. Either you or the mediator can end the session at any time

HOW DOES IT WORK

Mediators are experienced people who have been specially selected and trained for mediation. Their take is to help you to talk to your partner about your children and what is best for them and also about finance and property matters, if you wish.

MEDIATORS DO...

have a special concern for the welfare of the children

help you make your own decisions about where the children should live and how contact with the other parent should be arranged.

help you to decide how you will divide family finances and property

make sure that you both have an equal opportunity to say what you think and how you feel

help you to reach a fair decision about how you share finance and property

MEDIATORS DO NOT...

pressure you to stay together

express any opinions as to who is the better parent

blame either parent for the present situation

take sides

tell you what to do or what to think

Once you have seen a mediator you are always free to seek legal advice upon what is proposed/agreed

However as with all the information each case is different and you should contact us for specific advice
